Workshop: Guitar Design

In this optional one day course students will create a detailed design plan for their custom guitar, including sketches, materials, specifications, and a roadmap for building it. In addition to designing a completely custom electric instrument students will make their own set of templates that can be used to reproduce their design in any type of wood or similar material.

Key topics include body design, bandsaw techniques, routers, and sanding techniques. Review of tone woods, pickups, and hardware. Discussions on different styles, how design choices affect tone, playability, and ergonomics (weight, balance, strap position). Students leave with a clear action plan for starting their guitar build at home or in G-Lab.

Prerequisites: Intro to Guitar Making.
